On January 9, the Field Competition (Qingdao) of the 2022 National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition opened online at the Hongdao International Convention and Exhibition Center in Qingdao High-tech Zone. Focusing on high-end equipment manufacturing, future networking and communication, and new materials, the three-day competition has brought together 111 disruptive technology projects from across China, and will select the best ones for the national final. Winners of the national final will be recommended to be included in the library of alternative disruptive technology of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China (MOST).

The National Disruptive Technology Innovation Competition is sponsored by MOST and undertaken by the Torch High Technology Industry Development Center, with three divisions in Suzhou, Chengdu and Qingdao. Supported by the Department of Science & Technology of Shandong Province and co-organized by the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and the Management Committee of Qingdao High-tech Zone, the field competition in Qingdao is an important event aimed at highlighting the innovation in disruptive technology, strengthening the supply of disruptive technology, cultivating the culture of disruptive innovation, and exploring the mechanism of "discovery—selection—cultivation" of disruptive technology.

In 2022, the competition received 2,851 applications, and 348 reached the field competitions through preliminary screening. This is the second time for the Qingdao Municipal Science and Technology Bureau and Qingdao High-tech Zone to organize a field competition, following the first held in 2021.
