On December 16, China Three Gorges Corporation (CTG)'s first offshore wind power project in Shandong, i.e. Changyi Marine Ranching and CTG 300 MW Offshore Wind Power Integration Pilot Demonstration Project, was connected to the grid for power generation at full capacity.

Located 14 to 18 kilometers offshore in the north of Changyi City, Shandong Province, the project is equipped with a total of 50 offshore wind turbines with a unit capacity of 6 MW and a 220 kV offshore booster station. At the same time, a monitoring and observation station is built for Changyi offshore wind farm to synchronously upload marine environmental observation data to Shandong Ocean Observation Net. In the future, the project can provide about 940 million kWh of clean electricity, satisfy the electricity consumption of about 400,000 households, save about 290,000 tons of standard coal, and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 790,000 tons every year.

It is the first demonstration project for the integration of marine ranching and affordable offshore wind power in Shandong Province, and also a major project for the replacement of old growth drivers with new ones in Shandong Province. Relying on the completed wind turbine foundation, the project has constructed the marine ranching synchronously. Aquaculture areas have been set up within a 50-meter radius of the wind turbine foundation and different types of artificial fish reefs have been specifically arranged to provide good places for marine organisms to live and spawn. Up to now, about 2,000 hollow steres of fish reefs have been placed in the marine ranching.
